Microsoft helpfully published the underlying Word 2003 schema to facilitate this, but now in Europe is seeking a patent that theoretically could limit applications other than the original word processor having access to data in the Word document. The patent appears to be directed at Office suite competitors, but we know of CMS vendors also puzzling over the implications.&lt;/p&gt;
