&lt;p&gt;The RIAA has started leveraging &lt;a&gt;the DMCA&lt;/a&gt; to subpoena ISPs to disclose the identities of peer-to-peer participants trading copyright recordings. Verizon Communications, the ISP cited in the first such suit, comments \&quot;We understand that RIAA has a problem and needs this information. At the same time, we have an equally legitimate concern that they comply with the proper legal process.\&quot;  This follows news of &lt;a&gt;RIAA law pirates forcing American ISPs to ban &lt;em&gt;whole segments&lt;/em&gt; of the Chinese internet&lt;/a&gt; because those segments include bootleg sites.&lt;/p&gt;
